Cameron Hogan, commonly known as Jamie as a young man originally studying joint technical qualifications in Surveying and Civil Engineering while working for the Victorian state government. He subsequently changed career paths to study Youth Work qualifying in 1985. He went on to study a number of related qualifications whilst working with young people and in various senior roles in community services, project management and education. He worked with street gangs, teenage prostitutes', juvenile offenders and managed various youth services agencies.
He holds qualifications in Law,Criminal Justice, Management, Youth Work, Counselling, Quality Auditing. Training and Assessment and Alcohol and Other Drugs including a Doctorate in Philosophy and a Doctorate in Laws.
Jamie is a member of the Governance Institute of Australia, Youth Workers Australia, the Australian and New Zealand Criminology Society and the Institute of Community Directors of Australia, in addition to holding an Associate Fellowship of the Australian Institute of Management and Fellowships of the Institute of Management and Leadership and completing the the Victorian Community Leadership Program in 2011.
In recent times, Jamie has focused on his work as a strategic planner, social planner, political activist and commentator and quality auditor. He is recognised as an expert in policy and procedure and governance running several of his own academic consultancies and is a registered Lobbyist in the State of Victoria and the Commonwealth of Australia.
He lectured in Community Services, Counselling, AOD, Para-Legal and Legal and Ethical Practice for many years before leaving the academic world in early 2021 to pursue a consulting career.
These days Jamie who is semi retired specialises in political advice and political commentating after being active in the political world as a campaign manager, ministerial and Electoral Chief of Staff. He volunteers his time as an advocate for people with mental health issues and assists community groups with policy and governance
in addition to serving on numerous regional, state and national boards and committees over many yeas including the Ministerial Central Gippsland Regional Youth Committee as Deputy Chair, the Ministerial Consumer Affairs Advisory Committee, the Victorian Association of Youth Clubs Board of Directors and the boards of a number of corporate entities, he is currently a National Board Member and Treasurer of Youth Workers Australia [YWA], the peek professional body for Youth Workers around Australia.
He leads the YWA course accreditation process as Chair of their course accreditation committee and is the National Assessor for degrees offered by Universities and Diplomas offered by Registered Training Organisations and TAFE's around Australia that focus on working with young people.
Based in Gippsland on the east coast of Victoria, he founded the Derek Amos Institute for Public and Political Affairs in early 2024 and currently serves on the Institutes Steering Board [Think Tank] as its Director [Secretary].
Jamie in his spare time loves his fishing since he was six years old and fishes in Bream Competitions. He is also an avid photographer affiliated with the Master Photographers Association and the Royal Photographic Society. A hobby he has had since 1995. He has had a number of exhibitions and one several photographic awards.
Jamie has been awarded the Rotatory Youth Leadership Award, Life Membership of the Sale Neighbourhood House, Life Fellowship of the Association of Honorary Independent Persons the Community Services Medal, the Australian Security Medal and a regional Police Accommodation for his pioneering work as a Youth Worker at festivals and events during Schoolies and New Years Eve over many years and the training of Independent persons across regional Victoria
